Tangerine gets its English name from the port of Tangier, Morocco, through which it was historically exported to Europe and the Americas. In Chinese culture, its vivid red-orange color has long made it a symbolic fruit of abundance during Lunar New Year. 紅柑因早期經由摩洛哥丹吉爾港（Tangier）出口至歐美而得英文俗名，在中華文化中則因其鮮紅飽滿的果色，長期被視為農曆新年吉祥豐盛的象徵水果。
