Oregano's name comes from the Greek "oros" and "ganos" (joy of the mountain). Ancient Greeks believed it was a gift from Aphrodite and used it in bridal wreaths and home purification rites. 牛至之名源自希臘文「oros」與「ganos」（山之喜悅），古希臘人相信其為女神阿芙蘿黛蒂所贈，常用於婚禮花冠與居家淨化儀式。
