Melissa takes its name from the Greek word for "bee," reflecting how strongly its flowers attract them. It was commonly grown in medieval European monastery gardens and served as a traditional flavoring for mead. 香蜂草之名源自希臘文「melissa」（蜜蜂），因其花朵極受蜜蜂喜愛而得名，中世紀歐洲修道院花園中普遍栽種，是傳統蜂蜜酒風味的重要來源之一。
