Clary sage takes its name from the Latin "clarus" (clear); medieval Europeans used a soak of its seeds to cleanse the eyes. It was also traditionally used to flavor beer and wine. 快樂鼠尾草之名源自拉丁文「clarus」（清晰），中世紀歐洲人曾將其種子浸泡液用於清潔眼部，因而得名，也曾是啤酒與葡萄酒調味的傳統用料。
